Designetics Production Storage

Smart Space recently sold a mezzanine utilized for production storage.

Designetics’ had to make a choice to either do a building expansion or to utilize existing floor space. They chose to build up with a Smart Space Mezzanine. This mezzanine is a freestanding structure that fits tightly against the plants exterior wall and around the plant’s building columns. The deck cantilevered to the block wall in order to avoid electrical and air lines.

The stairs on this project are an OSHA steel stairs, with diamond plate treads and closed risers. The top landing is built into the mezzanine deck providing a smooth transition. The decking chosen was ResinDek® LD50 laid over VULCRAFT A Division of Nucor Corporation 1.5B 22 gage decking. The handrail and kick plate are attached to the outside of the perimeter framing. This design meets OSHA’s 1910.23(e)(3)(iv) “The anchoring of posts and framing of members for railings of all types shall be of such construction that the completed structure shall be capable of withstanding a load of at least 200 pounds applied in any direction at any point on the top rail.” This design also provides 100% of the mezzanine’s floor space to be used.  The support columns for this project were laid out to clear span 20′ from the exterior wall to the aisle and to line up with existing building columns. This custom layout was the most appropriate for Designetics.  This mezzanine is a structural steel, bolt together, freestanding unit used for production storage.
