2012 International Building Code IBC

A new project built to 2012 International Building Code   IBC Section 1009 Stairways 1009.4 Width.  The width of stairways shall be determined as specified in section 1005.1, but such width shall not be less than 44 inches (1118mm). see section 1007.3 for accessible means of egress stairways. IBC – Custom Stairs with Landings

Smart Space Mezzanines and Structures recently built two custom stairs with landings. The code used was IBC 2012. The stairs were constructed C10 x 15.3 for the stringers, 1-1/2” schedule 40 pipe handrail, HSS3x3x1/4” support legs, 3/16” x 1-1/2” serrated bar grating treads and deck. IBC – Public Access Handrail System

Smart Space Mezzanines and Structures recently upgraded a local church’s stair handrail system.  As you can see from the original photo the rail isn’t high enough and doesn’t appear that it could withstand a 200lb concentrated load. Husky Lima Refining Company

Husky’s main lobby atrium staircase was custom built by Smart Space Mezzanines and Structures. This staircase is both elegant and functional. This is a switchback style staircase has an extra-large mid landing and top landing. The 7′ wide concrete pan treads allow multiple personnel to easily access the second floor. IAC Huron

A custom designed Smart Space Mezzanine was an integral part of a recent project for the IAC Huron, Ohio Manufacturing Facility. The project included a mezzanine extension off an existing mezzanine, structural handrail and a lift out gate. All of the railing is construction from 1-1/2″ schedule 40 and 80 pipe with 1/4″x4″ toe guard. Smart Space then enclosed the entire finished structure with wire partition below. BP Oregon-Ohio Refining Facility

A custom designed Smart Space Mezzanine and Structure was an integral part of a recent project for the BP Oregon, Ohio Refining Facility. The project included a mezzanine with two IBC metal stairs, structural handrail and a lift out gate. The mezzanine is constructed from 18K6 bar joist.   The joisted are welded to bearing plates and supported by masonry walls.   The deck is  4″ thick concrete poured on a 0.6C22 metal deck manufactured by Vulcraft Group -Nucor Steel. Designetics Production Storage

Smart Space recently sold a mezzanine utilized for production storage. Designetics’ had to make a choice to either do a building expansion or to utilize existing floor space. They chose to build up with a Smart Space Mezzanine. This mezzanine is a freestanding structure that fits tightly against the plants exterior wall and around the plant’s building columns.
